Synopsis utilizing books to describe each Element of Fiction
Monster by Walter Dean Myers
Plot: The plot of the story Monster is that Steve is being accused of being the lookout in
a robbery. There are court trials to determine if Steve or King go to prison. At the end,
Steve is declared innocent and King is proven guilty.
Theme: The moral of the story Monster is to be careful of who your acquaintances are.
Setting: The book Monster mainly takes place in the Manhattan Detention center and in
the court room.
Characterization: The protagonist of the story Monster is Steve. The antagonist of the story Monster is Petrcelli. She is the antagonist because she is Steve's enemy, so she is trying to send him to prison.
Conflict: The conflict of the novel is that Mr. Nesbitt is killed, so Steve and King have to go to trial. If they are proven innocent they are free but if they are proven guilty then they will go to prison for 25 years to life.
Point of View: The point of view in Monster is in first person perspective, (and the main character also writes about himself in his journal and in the screenplay).
Flashback: Steve has many flashbacks in the novel. One of those flashbacks was when he remembered being with his brother. Jerry and talking about being super heroes. This shows that he loves his brother because he had a good flashback about him.

becomes the new Receiver of Memory. The Giver gives him all of the
memories of everyone in the society. These memories are full of pleasure and
pain. Jonas realizes that people that are not perfect are killed, so he decides to
run away.

where there is no pain or memory. People that are sick or old are ''released''
from the community, which means they are killed with a lethal injection. A more specific setting in the novel is in
the Annex room. In the Annex room the Giver transfers memories of the community to Jonas by touching him
