Reading opens up a new exciting world. I will be reviewing some of the books that I read throughout the year.
Monster
Monster by Walter Dean Myers
This book is about a 16-year-old African-American boy named Steve Harmon. Steve was accused of being part of a crime. Bobo stole, while King murdered the owner of the drugstore, Mr. Nesbitt. Bobo and King said that they had a lookout, and Steve was accused of being that lookout. Steve said that he just happened to be in the drugstore, but because Steve knew everybody involved it led people believe that Steve was involved.
In the book, Steve talks about how hard everything is in prison in his notebook. This story also takes place in the courtroom. The defense lawyer O'Brien defends Steve, and the prosecutor Petrocelli tries to prove that he is guilty.
I think this was a very interesting book because sometimes people are accused of things they say they did not do. Sometimes innocent people go to jail, and sometimes guilty people are out free on the streets.
Does Steve stay in jail or is he released? I recommend that you read the book to find out.

Wanted Dead Or Alive:
The True Story Of Harriet Tubman
Wanted Dead Or Alive: The True Story Of Harriet Tubman by Ann Mcgovern
This book is about Harriet Tubman's life as a slave. Harriet Tubman was an African-American woman who was treated unfairly by her white master. When she was growing up, she was hit with a whip. She had many scars that never went away. One day, while she was working in the fields, the white master tried to throw a two pound piece of metal at a slave, but instead he hit Harriet in the head. This caused Harriet to have seizures. Harriet was still able to work in the fields. Harriet overheard her master talking about how he was going to sell her, so she decided to run away. After she ran away, she also wanted to help her family and friends escape. Harriet went back to get them and helped them escape through a secret passage called the Underground Railroad. Harriet helped hundreds and hundreds of slaves escape even though she had a head injury and seizures. She is a hero to many people all over the world.
I recommend that you read this book so that you can see how brave and courageous Harriet Tubman was. She is a hero to many.
